Sea Ice Research Projects
Sea ice is a critically important feature of the polar regions and its presence influences the climate, marine ecology and human activity. Our work is focused primarily on coastal sea ice, in particular multiyear landfast sea ice, shore and flaw leads and ice ridges.
We are studying the breakup of landfast ice in Admiralty Inlet to develop a predictive model that will help determine the risk of breakup.
We are using uninhabited aerial vehicles (UAVs) to survey sea ice topography, like ridges sails, in order to map them using structure from motion photogrammetry.
