We are saddened that our 2019 Milne Fiord (Ellesmere Island) field team member and helicopter pilot, Steve Page, was killed in an accident a few days ago near Resolute.  We had a great, but all too brief, time with him in the field.  Steve was generous, helpful, and fun-loving.  He was curious, was interested in our science, and he had an adventurous spirit.  He learned about glacier hydrology immersively by becoming the first person to swim (on purpose) in a melt stream on the Milne Glacier.

Our condolences to Steve’s friends and family and to those who knew the others who perished in the crash — polar bear biologist Markus Dyck and engineer Benton Davie.  Links to news articles about all three are below.  We are also thinking about our friends and colleagues at the Polar Continental Shelf Program (PCSP) and others in Resolute who are dealing with this tragedy first-hand.
